Itinerary for the Marangu Route Kilimanjaro Trek

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and enjoy a private transfer to your hotel in Moshi. In the evening, you will have a pre-trek briefing with your guide, an equipment check, and preparation for the adventure ahead. Accommodation will be at Parkview Inn or a similar hotel, with dinner included.

Day 2: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

After an early breakfast, transfer to Marangu Gate to register and begin your trek through the lush rainforest to Mandara Hut. This hike covers 8km (5 miles) and takes about 4-5 hours. An optional visit to Maundi Crater offers panoramic views of northern Tanzania and Kenya. Dinner and overnight stay will be at Mandara Hut.

Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

After breakfast, trek through the rainforest, transitioning to heathland as you make your way to Horombo Hut. This 12km (7 miles) hike takes approximately 6-8 hours. Along the way, you can enjoy views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. All meals and an overnight stay will be at Horombo Hut.

Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut

Spend the day acclimatizing with a hike to Zebra Rocks or a shorter walk to the Mawenzi Saddle. This day helps your body adjust to the altitude. You will stay another night at Horombo Hut, with all meals included.

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

After breakfast, continue your trek through the lunar landscape of the Saddle between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. This 10km (6 miles) hike takes about 6-8 hours. Upon arrival at Kibo Hut, you will rest and prepare for the summit attempt. All meals and an overnight stay will be at Kibo Hut.

Day 6: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut

Begin the summit attempt at midnight. Trek to Gilman’s Point on the crater rim before continuing to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After reaching the summit, descend back to Kibo Hut for a short rest and then continue to Horombo Hut. This day’s trek covers 6km (3.7 miles) for the ascent and 15km (9.3 miles) for the descent, taking 6-8 hours for each. All meals and an overnight stay will be at Horombo Hut.

Day 7: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

Descend through the rainforest to Marangu Gate, covering 20km (12.4 miles) in 6-8 hours. After collecting your summit certificates, transfer back to Moshi. You will have a day room at Parkview Inn or a similar hotel to freshen up, with all meals included.

Day 8: Departure

Enjoy a private transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight, with breakfast included.
