Fly from Arusha or Dar es Salaam to Mahale airstrip. Upon arrival, you will transfer to your luxurious lodge or camp situated on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. The best months to visit are June to September when the weather is dry and chimpanzee sightings are frequent. Good months are January, February, October, November, and December. Mixed conditions can be expected in March, April, and May due to the rainy season.
Essentials include comfortable trekking shoes, light clothing for the day, warmer layers for the evening, swimwear, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, and binoculars.
The trekking can be moderately challenging as it involves walking through dense forest terrain. A reasonable level of fitness is recommended, but guides will ensure a pace that accommodates all participants.
