Getting There Fast

Your Way into the Serengeti

Located in northern Tanzania near the Kenya border, Serengeti is accessible from Kilimanjaro or Arusha airports. A scenic road journey offers wild, rugged beauty, while small airstrips inside the park offer a faster entry.

Spanning over 14,700 sq km, Serengeti is split into five diverse regions: Central Seronera for dense wildlife, Western Corridor for Grumeti River crossings, Northern for dramatic Mara crossings, Eastern for quiet adventures, and Southern plains for calving season herds. Choose based on the wildlife movement during your visit.

Explore the Regions

Serengeti’s 5 Sectors

Spanning 14,763 sq kmβ€”about the size of Connecticutβ€”Serengeti is vast. Most visitors focus on one or two sectors, based on the Great Migration’s route.

Central (Seronera):
High wildlife density and migration route access make this sector popular year-round.

Western Corridor:
Known for Grumeti River crossings, it’s dramatic but remote and less visited.

Northern:
Famous for Mara River crossings. Dry landscape with rocky outcrops and short grass.

Eastern:
Secluded and scenic with rolling hills and valleys. Migration passes through here southbound.

Southern:
Best during January–March calving season. Soft plains with newborns and predators in action.
